Mexico Authorizes New University-Led Committee Under CONOCER to Develop National Competency Standards

March 26, 2026

Mexico City, 03/26/2026 — Mexico has authorized the formation of the Competency Management Committee “University Committee on Technological, Human, and Professional Competencies” under CONOCER, expanding the country’s capacity to design and update nationally recognized occupational standards.

The Committee will operate within Mexico’s National Competency System, contributing to the development of standards that define the knowledge, skills, and performance criteria required across key sectors of the economy. Its creation reflects a broader effort to align workforce capabilities with technological change and evolving labor market demands.

Silicon Valley Futures Institute LLC has been appointed Vice President of the Committee, bringing international expertise in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and future-of-work strategy to the standard-setting process.

The Committee also includes:

  • Comité Latinoamericano de Ética en Tecnología CLET A.C.
  • Instituto de Excelencia Académica A.C.
  • eHub Latinoamerica A.C.

Together, the participating institutions are expected to support the design of competency standards that integrate technological innovation, ethical considerations, and academic rigor.

Under the CONOCER framework, Competency Management Committees are responsible for proposing, developing, and updating national standards, which serve as the basis for training, assessment, and certification processes across Mexico.

“The authorization of this Committee strengthens the institutional framework for competency-based education and certification, ensuring that standards remain relevant, evidence-based, and aligned with national priorities,” a Committee representative said.

The newly approved body is expected to focus on high-impact domains, including technological competencies, human-centered skills, and professional capabilities required in a rapidly evolving economy.

The move underscores Mexico’s continued investment in a competency-based model that supports workforce mobility, productivity, and international competitiveness through standardized and transparent credentialing mechanisms.
